Classicolor Water Soluble Color Pencils from an established Swiss company are first class, artists' colored pencils with a soft, break-resistant lead and good lightfastness. Wooden Paint Board
These painting boards are organically shaped and will inspire years of creativity. They are handcrafted from 5-ply birch wood and sealed with a non-toxic, low VOC natural finish that will protect against warping. Although the boards are sealed, children still have the opportunity of applying our beeswax polish to prepare and keep the surface clean. Our boards are perfectly suitable for wet-on-wet painting and will outlast most other boards on the market. Our favorite is the medium-sized board (21 x 15"). Needlefelting is a very accessible art form. All you really need is a wad of colored wool roving and a special, barbed needle (though a foam work surface pad is also nice). With those simple materials, one can create a sturdy sculptural work of art suitable for future play, nature table display, or a lovely gift. It is important to note, however, that the needles are very sharp and small stab wounds are almost inevitable--which I believe only adds to the appeal, especially for children who like a tiny bit of danger and bloodshed with their crafts! Hot Air Balloon Kit
A hot air balloon 190 cm (more than 6 feet!) high and 140 in diameter is glued together from (somewhat) flame resistant tissue paper. This kit is an experiment with warm air, as warm is lighter than the surrounding air, it rises, taking our balloon with it. When the air cools the balloon slowly floats to earth again. The aluminium bowl is filled with methylated spirits and this is lit to provide the lift, however this does not fly with the balloon for security reasons. The balloon remains in the air for about 5 minutes then gently returns to the ground; this allows the reuse of the balloon which has taken quite some time and effort to assemble.
